  • Prior to doing vision therapy, we know Tucker was a very intelligent child and was a high achiever. During first grade he started to struggle with reading. After numerous education and vision evaluations, we finally had a plan with the vision therapy.

Reading is now enjoyable and something that he will ask to do at home. Tucker can complete written homework all by himself. His confidence has increased which means he now feels much better about reading and school work. The difficult, frustrating school nights of homework are gone and now he is excited and volunteers to finish up homework in his own.

Tucker still has work to do to catch up with this peers but he’s now motivated and confident that he can do this.

  • We have seen significant progress with our daughter. Her grades have improved in all subjects, and most importantly her confidence has really grown. Before therapy she was very frustrated in school with reading and often had headaches. She was constantly falling behind, because it would take her longer to read. Now she rarely suffers from headaches and is really excelling in class. Vision therapy has really helped her and while she does complain about the homework she actually enjoys going to therapy each week and looks forward to seeing her therapist!}

We were considered the first committed therapy session but knew we needed to do something to help her. Over all, we have been very pleased with her progress and definitely think it was worth it!

  • When Anna started to learn to read in kindergarten. She would complain that her eyes hurt. A visit to the optometrist showed no problems. She didn't need glasses. As reading requirements progressed, she continued to complain about her eyes hurting. Math was very difficult. She frequently miscoppied math problems, or misread word problems. Schoolwork took longer than normal to complete. She was getting further behind in school. So what was wrong?

The summer before Anna started 6th grade, I saw an ad by Dr. McBryar with a checklist for students with vision problems; Anna had almost every indicator with checklists in hand, I made an appointment with our family’s optometrist and received a referral to Dr. McBryar.
Thank you to everyone at the Institute!

After about 8 weeks of therapy, Anna noticed that her eyes did not did not hurt as much when doing homework, and she could finish an assignment much more quickly. At completion, she can read pages and pages without her eyes hurting and does not lose her place on the page! Quickly, she can complete an entire math lesson. Thank you! Thank you!

  • Vision therapy is well worth the expense, time and effort. Our son had a hard time focusing and writing neatly. After vision therapy Seth could complete a task in half the time it previously took. His abilities to focus improved greatly, and so did his handwriting.

Also he was better at listening. As a parent, we wanted learning to be fun for our son, and vision therapy made this possible.

  • Elizabeth's schoolwork has shown a big improvement as well as the ease in which she completes it herself.

Her comprehension and fluency in reading has improved also. Vision therapy has definitely made a positive impact on Elizabeth's schoolwork.

  • Meredith came to the Vision Center for a regular checkup. When we were told she had ocular motor, binocular vision and accommodative disorder. She had had trouble in school with numbers and letters (certain ones), and the extra zeros skipping words & lines and missing direction for her work. With just the glasses, which helped her with up close vision and thereby with her accommodative disorder, she immediately made some improvement with her blurred vision. The extras zeros, we discovered, were due to her double vision.

After 24 weeks of eye therapy, Meredith has finally graduated. She has made great improvements in math and reading comprehension. She will also sit and read books for hours on end, whereas before she would start and stop alot (due to eye-fatigue). Many of her ADD symptoms have been minimized. She is focusing, able to complete assignments with more frequently and has been making straight A’s recently! I am a firm believer that the vision therapy did wonders for her eyes, her abilities, and her self esteem. I'm so glad I found you.

  • For years, our son struggled with episodes where his eyes would cross if he was tired, TU, oversugared or otherwise physically stressed. In fifth grade he also started having trouble with blurring when switching from seatwork to looking up at the board and back and ready for any length of time was always difficult.

In 2nd grade, a pediatric ophthalmologist advised us to pursue a surgical option but the eye-crossing was neither constant nor consistent, and never were convinced it wouldn't cause different problems to more his muscles. What about the majority of the time when he saw perfectly well? what about the fact the he passed all the depth perception tests?

Thank god for Dr. McBrayer opening an office here in Chattanooga, for a new optometrist who knew about her and sent us over, and for the training our son received so that he could coordinate his eyes, compensate for their tendency to cross, end end up in combat of his own vision. He now reads as long as he wants to, has no problems with rapid repeated back and forth in class, on the ball field or anywhere. What a wonderful improvement in his life carry him into a brighter future. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • Vision therapy has dramatically changed my son's life! ! ! Before therapy 2-3 pages was a struggle. He complained of headaches constantly! Sixteen weeks later, after seeing double he can now read easily, for over an hour without complaint! ! ! Schoolwork is now much easier for him!!! he no longer sees double!!!

    I highly recommend therapy!!!
the activities that he would have complained about in the past, are now easy and enjoyable. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  • Before I started vision therapy, I was told I have convergence insufficiency. Convergence insufficiency is where your eyes don't work together like they should. It can cause blurred vision, headaches and even make you nauseous. When my eye doctor had told me what it was, you highly recommended vision therapy. And now that I've been through it, I highly recommend it as well it's a wonderful practice it really does help your vision i never realized i could have control over my eyes until i started working with Mrs. Lee Ann, at school i wasn't able to focus because the pain of my eyes west so bad i couldn't keep up with the lines of my books i'm so glad we took care of this when we did. It's like a whole new world being able to have control over your eyes. I had a wonderful experience!

  • FOR THE BETTER!

My son used to excuse himself from class because the anxiety of not being able to do the work. He would throw tantrums when it came time to do homework. He would never attempt to read, always wanted me to read to him, however if you ask him to read a single word he could. He could not read a sentence, only single words.

I think my child's words best sum up what VT has done for him: " mom, can we get this? ( the easy button at staples) " that way i can hit it each time i finish a page homework! " or : "Mom the worst thing about VT is that it is almost over!" He love's coming to R. McBryar's office. In 6 months my son went from not being able to read hop on pop by Dr. Seuss the finishing 2 diary of wimpy kid books. The RESULT SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES! WE LOVE what vision therapy has done for our son and his confidence!

  • As a young adult starting vision therapy I was initially skeptical that anything could be able to fix the issues I faced with my vision, since I could remember, I struggled with moments of double vision, impaired depth perception and difficulty keeping track of my eyes while reading . As a medical student training to be a surgeon it is vital for me to have excellent vision.

Initially, progress was slow; it didn't necessarily enjoy going through VT. However after weeks of attending my sessions and completing my at home exercises I started to notice significant improvements.

Today, I no longer experience any double vision; something I never expected to ever change my depth perception has also improved tremendously and I now perceive the world in a 3- dimensional manner.

  • I am so appreciative to Dr. McBryar and the staff at the institute for vision development! My daughter Caitlin, is thrilled to be able to read without fighting the battle of blurry vision and double vision . She suffered with headaches and complete exhaustion throughout fourth grade. She would reread material up to five times because she was aware she was keeping words and lines . She was also self-conscious that she was not reading as quickly as her peers and also worried that her vision problem could not be resolved .

Dr. McBryar encourage Caitlin to persevere in the therapy even when it was difficult and no immediate change was noticed . She also explain the purpose of exercises in therapy and explain the need for homework assignments .
When results were achieve, Caitlin was THRILLED! I remember her excitement when she could read with no vision problems . She felt confident and proud of her accomplishments! I feel that she could not have achieved this great success without the guidance and instruction from Dr. McBryar . I am so grateful !!!

  • Haley's reading has improved greatly . Her test course in reading , math and all other areas have greatly improved . She now try to read harder books than she would read before she only read the very simplest books she could find and if she doesn't know a word I will try a sound it out herself instead of asking someone to do it for her .

She is also more coordinated in sports and other activities . She wants to skip and run a play games not require more focus then she would before vision therapy.

She has much more confidence in herself now , and she will raise her hand and volunteer in class. Before she would try to hide so the teacher wouldn't call on her. This has been great for Haley.

  • Vision therapy has made a difference in Rebecca's life. She had low self-esteem and grades were horrible. She hated reading now she loves to read books and is continuing to do great with her grades at school. Her handwriting is still not the best in the world but she is working on that . Thank goodness Rebecca's pediatrician recommended vision therapy . We don't know what we would have done if not for the great job this girls have done with Rebecca. The pamphlets had my daughters problems down to a T. She has come a very long way with the help of this services. I highly recommend vision therapy to anyone who asks me.

Thanks again to Kelly , Kristen and Dr. McBryar for the great job .
The 6 months that we have been coming has given my daughter the help that she needed to becoming someone with great confidence and less frustration. We thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  • Emma told me at the end of fifth grade that she was having trouble reading and copying stuff off the board at school. A Trip to the eye doctor and we were referred here. We were familiar with here because several friends had brought their kids here.

Emma is now almost finished and she said she notices a huge difference at school . She can read not get lost at her place and know what she read . She can also copy off the board quicker than before .

We are very happy with Emma's improvement and would recommend to others.

  • Vision Therapy has helped Marley so much . She was having trouble focusing in school on her class work and the first thought was she maybe ADHD but we realize she was having trouble focusing because of problems with her vision . The therapy has strengthened her eyes and she no longer sees double or words move on the page therefore she can concentrate on her work and complete it more timely. Marley says it has given her confidence back especially in school; She says she feels more comfortable reading aloud to her classmates now . We are so thankful for the vision therapy and especially Ms. Lee Ann . She has worked so hard with Marley to have success and has always been positive and encouraging each week. We would (and have) highly recommend vision therapy to our friends.

  • Since Abi has underwent eye-therapy, I have noticed that she no longer needs her finger to keep her place while reading and has greatly improve her overall reading time . She is able to attack sounding out words on her own and does not ask me to help her with many words . As she is now able to figure most out on her own, I have been very pleased with her progress

  • Prior to coming to the institute for vision development my son complained of daily headaches. Therapy has eliminated his headaches completely. I love knowing my son is able to learn pain-free for the rest of his life because of the work that has been done over just a few weeks in this office. He he absolutely loved coming that didn't even feel like going to a doctor or therapy. We are grateful for the relief he was able to find by coming here.

    Thank you!

  • Vision Therapy has given or son the tools he needs to be able to scan and read the written word more effectively and efficiently.

He love working with John and these working sessions give him the motivation to gladly work on his homework assignments.

It amazed us to see the difference in the tracking of his eyes and along a line of it's from the beginning to the end of the treatment.

Dr. McBryar , Kristen and John are all marvelous and we would recommend them to anyone I only wish that we would have found them sooner!

  • Sydney and I have enjoyed coming to VT. The staff there is great. Everyone made us feel welcome from day one. When your child is having problems you want to help them in any way you can and everyone there showed us the way. Sydney has gone from really struggling with the studies to just sneezing through them. Angela has made Sydney enjoy therapy and want to keep coming week after week. Some weeks the drive seemed like it was longer than normal, but after therapy Sydney would tell what all she did today and I remembered how great this is. I hope that everyone there realizes how great a parent feels when your child can read and enjoy it and know it all because of yall. I can never tell you how much I will appreciate everything y'all did for Sydney. She has come a long way and she continues to grow. May God bless you all for everything y’all do for my family and many more to come.

  • When our daughter got glasses at the age of three,we thought her vision problems would be solved. We were wrong. She struggled with reading in 1st + 2nd grade, but teachers felt it would work its self out,and that she tried hard.In 3rd grade we realized that she would only read and concentrate for a small periods of time.We thought She was being lazy and She would get frustrated, and would avoid reading. She told us one day that it was hard to keep her place when reading Chapter Books. We had tried eye therapy before with another doctor, but the program was not as intense as this one and it did not work.I did more research and found Doctor McBryar. We Saw rapid improvement in her ability to read and comprehend as well as a boost in confidence. One teacher at the school thought her reading test scores were wrong because of the drastic improvement We are pleased and hope that others with a child having problems, take a look at vision therapy.

  • My Daughter struggled to read for the majority for her school career. Her writing was “messy”. Homework was a battle that frequently involve tears. We began reading tutors in the third grade and saw only minimal improvement. Her self-esteem began to negatively impacted during the fourth grade. We switched reading tutors at the beginning of fifth grade. That tutor suggested that my daughter be evaluated for vision therapy. We were shocked when we reviewed the original evaluation results with

  • Dr.McBryar.As early as three weeks into therapy we began to see differences in my daughter’s ability to track appropriately when reading. As therapy progressed her abilities and her confidence soared! On her last report card of the fifth grade she received her first “A” in reading- it was her best report card since the third grade. For the first time in her life,my daughter asked for a book to read for pleasure. Her outlook on homework changed. Prior to therapy, she would dread homework and put it off until the last minute. After therapy, she was completing her homework in the car. Her writing is much neater, which has reduced the occurrence simple mistakes. She enjoys therapy and she has commented on her increased reading abilities and overall abilities. Her vision issues impacted her physical abilities as well. Catching a ball was difficult-but now she can do easily. In Summary,I would pay ten times the amount requested for the results and positive changes witnessed in my daughter.

    THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU!

  • Our daughter used to have terrible headaches daily after school,to the point she would require medication and rest. After a visit to our pediatrician,we were referred to the office. This team could not be a kinder, more compassionate team! Our family has only received love and genuine care from each member of the staff.Dr.Sechler has provided excellent explanations to our daughter for her exam. Leanne is phenomenal! She has been so patient with our busy family and Shown nothing but love-especially to our daughter. Kinsey has excelled significantly in her school- work since we began her therapy. The headaches are gone! If anyone is trying to decide whether or not to agree to the therapy,I would strongly encourage them to proceed with the visits. It has changed our daughter’s life!

  • I believe Vision Therapy has played a meaningful & significant role in Justus' improved visual skills. He is better able to manage and complete homework assignments. A recent school progress report indicated positive growth in several areas. Because he is having more success with school work in general he is a much happier child. We are pleased with our child’s development and growth this year and are optimistic about his prospects for continued academic development.

  • My daughter, Mugan had been struggling with reading issues since kid. We had her eyes checked and though she did need glasses , it didn’t completely resolve the underlying issues.

A friend of ours, Mugan’s former pre-k teacher heard about Dr.McBryar and vision therapy on the radio and suggested we call and see what it was all about. We had Mugan tested and discovered she had issues with tracking that could be treated with vision therapy. After researching all we could we took a leap of faith and never looked back. Meijan’s reading has improved and I admit, I Cried when she read a whole story book beginning to end. Mugan always loyal coming to therapy and we can not thank Dr. McBryar and her staff enough for giving her the confidence she needs to be successful in school and beyond.

  • My 9 years old son has had difficulty with reading and school work for all of his school life. He would complain continuously that it was “too hard” or that he simply could not do it. While reading with him I had noted he skipped words and lines as well as read words backwards at times. After finishing Vision Therapy with Dr. McBryar and her staff his reading abilities hare dramatically improved. He is able to read well out loud as well as to himself. His other school work has improved and he is now reading much closer to grade level. I am sure with a little more practice he will be well beyond his level. He is also picking up books and reading them on his own as well as reading signs everywhere we go. Thank you for all your help and encouragement to stay the course. The investment of time and money were well worth it.

  • Since completing vision therapy, Jack has gained self-confidence and is reading on a regular basis we are anxious to see how he does in sixth grade and hope to see an improvement.

A big thank you to Dr. McBryar and staff!

  • When I read the above question to Christian, he immediately said, “Yes, I can read better.” that from my son. For me I say Yes! He is more confident, happier and has a new outlook on life!

We had done several things before finding Dr. Heather. Nothing was working. I had no idea that he was seeing words jammed together and jumbled. His vision wa 20/20.

I cannot believe the progress he has made in 6 months.

I cannot never thank Dr. Heather and her staff enough.

We still have work to do however, no he sees the way he is suppose to see. I have recommended Dr. Heather to a friend already and will continue to sing her praise.

    Thank you! Thank you!

  • Haley saw Dr. McBryar at the suggestion of a friend, who is a school psychologist at the time. She was reading Abeka 1st readers. At the end of her 21 week therapy, she was ready well out of 4th grade readers. Amazing sweet true!

Dr. McBray also picked up that she had audio processing and rhythm problems. She knew just who to send us to much improvement.
I guess I should have mentioned that Haley was 10 years old when met Dr. McBryar and at 10, 5th grade, she was reading only 1st grade level.

We are on the office today, 10 years later, because Haley feels her eyesight is worse. They aren’t it is muscle getting spasms “Normal” eye doctors would not have caught that Dr.McBryar is highly recommended by me.

  • Bekah had problems reading and with her handwriting since kindergarten. In 1st grade we had tested for vision impairments/deficiencies. She tested really low in some areas for her age. Bekah would get very frustrated and want to give up. Since beginning therapy, her reading comprehension has improved greatly. Not only had her reading improved, but so has her handwriting. Her confidence has increased so much. She wants to read in class now, something she didn't want to do in 1st grade. We feel that vision therapy has helped Bekah greatly in more ways than we expected. We appreciated Dr.McBryar and her staff so much for helping Bekah to have great confidence in herself and with her language skills. You have been instrumental in her success and for that we have grateful. We know she will continue to use the tools you have shown her and achieve greater success.

  • I would definitely recommend vision therapy, in fact I already have my 4th grader, Elizabeth was constantly rubbing her eyes & squinting to do her work. Her vision was 20/20, actually almost 20/15 so that was not the issue. It turns out that she had an eye tracking problems as well as her eye focused at different times verses together so she always saw things blurry for the first couple of minutes. This made school extremely difficult particularly when she would have to focus on the board then copy to her notebook. It took her too long to copy things because she had to wait to focus on the board & wait to focus on her notebook. This problem also came into play when copying definitions from her book etc. After six months of therapy she is no longer rubbing her & squinting to do her work she is also more self confident due to Angela's wonderful care & upbeat attitude!

  • When we started vision therapy, we didn't understand the limitations of Molley’s vision. We know she was having difficulty in being able to change her focus from deskwork to boardwork at school. We were unaware of how this would affect her long term as one eye was being ignored by her brain. We have tried patching but it had only produced a small improvement in her vision. Dr.McBryar and her staff were wonderful at working with Molley. Not only did Molley enjoy working with them but they were able to teach her how to use her both eyes together in a fun way. Dr.McBryar explained everything to us and kept us well-informed of Molley’s progress. We are so thankful for Dr. McBryar and her staff, Molley’s vision is much better than now as both eyes are working as a team. I am confident that the skills Molley learned in therapy will allow her to do whatever she chooses to do in her life. Without therapy, Molley would have limitations but now, she has the skills she needs. I would highly recommend vision therapy.

  • Riley had a wonderful experience at Vision Therapy. He came to the program barely reading on a first grade level and left the program reading on a med second grade level. Six month of therapy and tutoring took Riley to the level he needed to catch up with his class. The experience he had gave Riley the confidence and skills needed for second grade reading. Dr.McBryar trained and taught Riley how to overcome his fears and struggle with reading. I see excitement from Riley now when he sits down to read a book. He doesn’t have the fear and embarrassment among his classmates. Thank you for everything you have done for Riley you have given him the skills to concern this issue in his life.

  • There has been a huge change in my daughter’s attitude towards school since completing her vision therapy at the institute for Vision Development. Before completing vision therapy she would dread reading assignments that should have taken 10 minutes would take up to 30 to be completed and then she would become frustrated because she was unable to recall what she read. Her confidence was low. She felt she wasn’t smart enough. After sixteen weeks of therapy she is confident in her academic abilities. Reading is no longer a struggle. She is comphrencing and completing assignments faster with better grades. She is now reading for pleasure! Something she didn’t do before. My daughter is ready to conquer the challenges of high school. Thank you Dr.McBryar and staff.

  • I cannot thank you vision therapy enough for all they have done for my son. We have spent 6 months in therapy and have seen more and more progress as time has gone on. Just when we had almost given up we were referred to Dr. McBryar and her staff have been amazing. Colton our son has gone from not being able to read or write to writing stories and reading books on his own. His letter reversals and confusion are almost completely gone and he is able to self correct when he does make a mistake. His memory has increased dramatically and is now able to memorize. His reading comprehension amazes us everyday. Even when you think he is not paying attention he is still able to tell you what was read. His attention span has increased and he has gained the confidence to keep trying and not give up. His fine motor coordination has gotten so much better. We are just so thrilled with the changes. We cannot express enough how grateful we are. The most amazing thing to me is that Colton himself can tell the difference. He has been able to have fun through this whole process which makes all the difference in the success we’ve seen. Thank you so much to each and everyone of you here in vision therapy. God has blessed you with a gift that truly changes a life.

  • Thank you so much! And yes I have recommended eye therapy to several people already! Corie has gone through a lot of changes over the past year and when the eye Dr. said we needed to get her eyes checked out I was skeptical. But after an evaluation I was sold and very thankful to have a great place in town to go to Dr. McBryar and Dr. Sechler have been great and we love Lee Ann Corie has grown the most visibly in her confidence. However there has also been a big change in her ability to focus, tell her left from her right and also able to look up from reading and back and not lose her place. Her reading has definitely gotten better and she has better handwriting. Thank you all so much for working with us and helping our daughter so much!

  • Vision Therapy has been such a great experience and blessing to our family! Ellie struggled with reading and she was always embarrassed of reading in front of people. She had a hard time following the words across the page and this would frustrate her very quickly. Getting her to read anything for school was always difficult. I am totally amazed at the change she has made since during vision therapy. Now she reads smoothly and easily and she is always wanting to read out loud every chance she gets! I'm so thankful to Lee Ann and everyone at Vision Therapy! Lee Ann is our favorite person ever! Whenever I hear someone saying their child is having difficulty reading I always tell them about this great place!

  • We have definity seen a dramatic improvement with our son’s homework speed and his motivations related to his studies. He is also much more likely to pick up a book and read for pleasure, which says a lot! On top of these changes he was able to catch his first football and keep running. I’m sorry I don't know what the office name is!

So, a big thank you to the every professional and kind staff for all of your support.

  • Prior to vision therapy,I had Intense, often severe, pain on a regular basis. I had to limit exposure to screens to very minimal, basically non-existent,amounts of time-something which was alarming for an I.T. major. After countless trips to the emergency room and multiple misdiagnosis from respected eye specialists,I was finally recommended to come here for an evaluation. Having completed four months of therapy,my pain is at an all-time low. I’ve been able to resume college, now spending upwards of 6 hours daily on computers at times, with little to no pain. If I had not been sent here,it's hard to say I would be doing even a few of the things I love at this point. Because of that,I owe a lot of debt of thanks to the doctors and therapists here for quite literally changing the way I see life.

  • Vision therapy has made my life better, overall.I work a full-time job where I work at a computer 8 plus hours a day. Before Vision therapy, I wasn't even making it to 12pm without being exhausted and having a headache. Now I can make it to the end of my shift without being exhausted and my headaches are not near as often. This has made work easier and more enjoyable. My evenings are more productive. Even my family has noticed I am not as tired. Vision therapy has helped my productivity increase and stay at a rate that is considered productive. I have even made some new friends! Thank you all for all you have done to help me these last 6 months!

  • Wow! Where do I even start? I came to Dr.MacBryar’s office with my daughter Savannah after being referred by our eye doctor. I was very skeptical at first but quietly realized after her first testing, that They were spot on with Savannah’s issues.Savannah absolutely loved her therapist. Aclison and couldn't wait to go every week. We started seeing Improvements in every area of her fibe some Math to reading, to hitting the softball

Savannah initially went to < 4 level in many areas to 18 yrs in testing. It was almost income on how drastic her test score increased over 6 months. On our last lesson Savannah Cried because she would miss Aclison so much.and didn't want to stop vision therapy, I would say our is a success story on all levels and would highly recommend it!

  • Sarah Beth is reading above grade level for the first time. I have seen growth in speed, accuracy, and comprehension. She has always enjoyed being read to and reading, but she is now powering through books series.
She has also made gains in Math. Her confidence has grown, and she now considers herself a great math student. I have seen increases grade wise in this area as well

Next week, she will be trying out for volleyball. We’ll keep you posted!

  • Before Vision therapy, my daughter would only choose books with print due to the strain on her eyes to see smaller print. A few months into therapy, she bought me a book that she had just finished, and it had tiny print! She did not even realize the print was small because the therapy exercises had strengthened her focusing muscles so much. The therapists are wonderful and encouraging making a tedious task actually fun! We have told many other people about vision therapy and the benefits for a struggling readers.

  • Since starting Vision Therapy my daughter, Kylie has become a more confident reader! She is no longer dreads her nightly reading for school. Her fluency has improved as well as her comprehension. Kylie’s handwriting is amazing now and she gets compliments from all who are with her at school. She’s a pro at right and left directionality! She is able to apply knowledge to all aspects of her day. She has looked forward to every single session of therapy and never wanted to skip. For as much improvement as she’s made, she never considered it hard work, only a way to grow and change for the better. We are forever grateful to the institute for vision development for convincing us to give it a try to her therapist Lee Ann for dilightly working out all the kinks with Kylie and to Dr. McGarvy who we recommend it to us.

  • My daughter struggled to read for the majority of her school career. Her writing was “messy”. Home work was a battle that frequently tears. We began reading tutors in the third grade and saw only minimal improvement. Her self-esteem began to be negatively impacted during the fourth grade. We switched reading tutors at the beginning of fifth grade. The tutor suggested that my daughter be evaluated for vision therapy. We were shocked when we reviewed the original evaluation result with Dr.McBryar. As early as three weeks into therapy we began to see differences in my daughter’s ability to track appropriately when reading. As therapy progressed her abilities and confidence soared! On her last report card of the fifth grade she received her first “A” in reading-it was her best report card since the third grade. For the first time in her life, my daughter asked for a book to read for pleasure. Her vision issue impacted her physical abilities as well. Catching a ball was difficult-but now how can she easily. In summary I would pay ten times the amount requested for the result and positive changes witnessed in my daughter. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

  • Vision therapy has made a great difference in my child's life. Fortunately, his kindergarten teacher picked up that something was going on. As first grade stared, he would cry and say “mommie this is so hard I just can’t do it” When we read together, it took a while to really all great improvement, but we persisted and did as Dr.McBryar advised. He began improving by leaps and bounds mean the end of the treatment, and still experiencing residual effects. We are so blessed to have found this and I honestly don’t know what we would have done without it.

  • When our daughter got glasses at the age of three, we thought her vision problems would be solved. We were wrong. She struggled with reading 1st and 2nd grade, but teachers felt it would work itself out, and that she tried hard. In 3rd grade we realized that she would only read and concentrate for small periods of time. We thought She was being lazy and she would get frustrated, that it was hard to keep her place when reading Chapter books. We had tried eye therapy before with another doctor, but the program was not as intense as this one and it did not work. I did more research and found Dr McBryar. We saw rapid improvement in her ability to read and comprehend as well as a boost in confidence. One teacher at the school thought her reading test scores were wrong because of the drastic improvement. We are so pleased and hope that others with a child having problems, take a look at vision therapy.

  • When Anna started to learn in kindergarten,She would complain that her eyes hurt. A visit to the optometrist showed no problems. She didn't need glasses. As reading requirements progressed, she continued to complain about her eyes hurting. Math was very difficult. She frequently miscopied math problems or missed word problems. School work took longer than normal to complete. She was getting further behind in school. So what was wrong?

The Summer before Anna started 6th grade, I saw an ad by Dr. Mcbryar with a checklist for students with vision problems, Anna had almost every indicator. With a checklist in hand, I made an appointment with our family’s optometrist and received a referral to Dr. Mcbryar.

Thank you to everyone at the Institute! After about 8 weeks of therapy,Anna noticed that her eyes did not hurt as much when doing schoolwork, and she could finish an assignment much more quickly. At completion, she can read pages and pages without her eyes hurting and does not lose her place on the page! Quickly she can complete an entire math lesson. Thank you! Thank you!

  • Vision therapy has given our son the tools he needs to be the to scan and read the written word more effectively and efficiently.

He loved working with John and these working sessions gave him the motivation to glory work on his homework assignments.

It amazed us to see the difference in the tracking of his eye along all line of list from the beginning to the end of treatment.

  • Dr. McBryar, Kristen and John are all marvelous and we would physically recommend them to anyone… Our one wish is that we would have found them sooner.

    T. S.
  • For years, Our son struggled with episodes where his eyes would cross if he was tired,TV,over-sugared or otherwise physically stressed. In 5th Grade,he also started having trouble with blurring when suffering from seatwork to losing up all the board and back- and reading for any length of time was always difficult.

In 2nd grade, a pediatric ophthalmologist advised us to pursue a surgical option, but the eye-crossing was neither constant nor consistent, and we never were convinced it wouldn't cause different problems to move his muscles- what about the majority of the time when he saw perfectly well? What about the fact that he passed all the depth perception tests?
Thank god for Dr.McBryar opens on office here in Chattanooga, for a new optometrists who knew about her and send us ones, and for the training our son received so that he could coordinate his eyes compensate for their tendency to cross, and end up in control of his own vision. He now leads as long as he want to, has no problems with rapid or repeated switching backhand fourth in class, on the ballfield or ANYWHERE. What a wonderful, improvement in his life, carrying him into a long hour future. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!.

  • When we first came to the practice, my son did not have huge issues, but lots of small ones- trouble with reading, sports (hitting the baseball consistently), coordination, etc- that were not easily detectable, but when put together presented issues. The staff here were all very professional and loving towards him. While I was concerned in the reading, my son was concerned with the athletic side. Seeing improvement night off the bat gave him confidence that i have nor seen in him and made him want to not only Come to therapy, but also made him want to work hard. He has surpassed his grade level and above in reading and hit his first home run this year! Thank you!!!

  • Vision therapy is well worth the response, time and effort. Our Son had a hard time focusing and writing neatly. After vision therapy Seth could complete a task in half the time if previously took. His abilities to focus improved greatly and so did his handwriting.

Also, he was better at listening. As a parent, we wanted learning to be fun for our Son, and vision therapy made this possible.
    C. S.
  • FOR THE BETTER!

My son used to excuse himself from class because of the anxiety of not being able to do the work. He would throw tantrums when it came time to do homework. He would never attempt to read, always wanted me to read to him, however if you asked him to read a single word he could. He could not read a sentence, only single words.

I think my child's words Best sum up what V.T. has done for him:” Mom, can we get this?” (the easy button on Staples) “That way i can hit it each time I finish a page of homework!” Or : “Mom, the worst thing about V.T. is that it is almost over!” He loved coming to Dr.McBryars office.

In 6 months my son went from not being able to read Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss to finishing 2 diary of a Wimpy Kid books. The Results SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES! We what Vision therapy has done for our son and his confidence!

  • Meredith came to visit the Vision Center for a regular eye-cheek When we were told one had oculomotor, binocular vision and accommodative disorder. She had trouble in school with numbers and letters (certain ones), adding extra zeros skipping words + lines and missing directions for her work. With just the glasses, which helped her with up close vision and therapy with her accommodative disorder, she immediately made some improvement with her blurred vision. The extra zeros, we discovered, were due to her double vision.

After 24 weeks of eye therapy, Meredith has finally graduated. She has great improvements in Math and reading comprehensions. She will also sit and read books for hours on end, whereas before she would start and stop a lot (due to eye fatigue). Manyof her ADD symptoms have been minimized. She is focusing, able to complete assignments much more frequently and has been making straight As recently!. I am a Firm believer that the vision therapy did wonders for her eyes, her abilities, and her self-esteem. I'm so glad i've found you.

  • I am so appreciative to Dr.McBryar and the staff at the Institute for Vision Development! My daughter, Caitlin, is thrilled to be able to read without fighting the battle of blurry vision and double vision. She suffered with headaches and complete exhaustion throughout fourth grade. She would reread material up to five times because she was aware she was skipping words and lines. She was also self conscious that she was not reading as quickly as her peers and also worried that her vision problem could not be resolved.

Dr.McBryar encouraged Caitlin to persevere in therapy even when it was difficult and no immediate change was noticed. She also explained the purpose of exercises in therapy and explained the need for homework assignments.

When results were achieved, Caitlin was THRILLED! I Remember her excitement when she could read with no vision problems. She felt confident and proud of accomplishments! I feel that she could not have achieved this great success without the guidance and instruction from Dr.McBryar I am so grateful!!!

  • Wes vision therapy has given him the skills he needed to promote confidence in his reading, writing, etc. For quite some time he was very defeated by school and didn’t even want to try. I saw quick improvements in tracking and fine motor which really got him to try on things that he didn’t even bother to try before. Because of his therapy and diagnosis and strongly believe he is on the road to success. He loved coming therapy and always felt comfortable coming to work with Dr.McBryar and his staff. Thank you for helping Wes, and giving him his confidence back!

  • Elizabeth’s school work has shown a big improvement as well as the ease in which she completes it herself.

Her comprehension and fluency in reading has improved also. Vision therapy has definitely made a positive impact on Elizabeth school work.
